An early departure from Bermuda left me feeling a bit blue! After battling winds gusting 25 and rain for the last 6 holes Thursday I felt very good about my play, my ball striking was average considering I hadn’t played in several weeks and my head space was good. Commencing the final four holes of the day were the most difficult, the famous redesigned 16th hole was playing 205 with winds off the ocean and rain made it play upwards of 230 yards . I always think George Knudson hitting 7 irons into the ocean and watching the ball fall on the green; after making par I hit my tee shot into the water on the par 5 17th and made a good par unnoticed bye my scorer.

After an exhausting first round looking like I just stepped out of a shower for 45 minutes with my clothes on , I proceeded to sign for a 4 on the 17th and proceeded to take my rain soaked attire off outside the scoring area!!!! I know for certain that next time I might be sitting in my briefs at the scoring table to avoid the early exit to a championship that I really wanted to win !!!

Upwards on onwards off later this week to help one of Magna’s most liked members to prepare for his Augusta debut!!

Cheers

(Peterborough, Ont., August 21, 2007) – Danny King endured the pressure applied by his playing competitor Jerry Anderson to claim the second annual Ontario PGA Head Professional Championship at Peterborough Golf & Country Club. King and Anderson put on a show for the spectators at the classic Stanley Thompson golf course en route to matching 65’s.

“It really didn’t matter what Jerry did today, I was just trying to focus on beating the course,” said King. “Overall I had a good committed ball striking day and I am honoured to have my name on the Al Balding Memorial Trophy.”

Anderson, who recently won the Ontario PGA Seniors’ Championship, played a solid round today but in the end came up 1 stroke short.”I thought it went pretty well today actually,” said Anderson. “I put a fair amount of heat on the Kingman and I wanted to make sure he earned it.”

King now heads into this week’s Canadian Tour event on a sponsor’s invite feeling confident about his game. The Jane Rogers Memorial Championship takes place at Mississauga’s Lakeview Golf Course and should set up similar to Peterborough.

Temperatures below 10 degrees, winds gusting up to 40km made for a very difficult day to score. Having to reduce a seven stroke margin and knowing that five under par for a two day total could have a chance to win the title.

Hitting eighteen greens with five birdies and one bogie alowed me to post a round that would almost allow me to win the ever-so-elusive Spring Championship. After a grueling day and a two hour wait, I found out that four under par would be in a playoff.

After a six hole playoff, we were awarded the second place cheque for the second week in a row.

Onwards and upwards, chin up!

Press release from the Ontario PGA:

(Georgetown, Ont. May 14, 2007) – The team of Tom Jackson and Danny King shot 65 to claim the 2007 Golf Supply House Pro / Pro Championship today at scenic North Halton Golf & Curling Club in Georgetown. The Jackson & King tandem have partnered in this event once before finishing in 6th place last year at Caledon Country Club.

“The course was in spectacular shape today and the greens were very receptive” said Tom Jackson the General Manager at Oslerbrook Golf & Country Club.

King, playing in his first PGA sanctioned event since claiming the 2006 Canadian PGA CPC, showed little signs of rust adding the GSH Pro / Pro to his growing list of Ontario PGA trophies. That list includes 2 Ontario PGA Championship titles, 3 Ontario PGA Assistants’ victories and 2 Ontario PGA Summer Championship triumphs.

“It was great to win this event with Tom, we played well last year but came up a little short, It was a great day today,” added King, Director of Instruction at Magna Golf Club in Aurora.

There was a log jam for second place with Ken Tarling / John White, Fraser McIntyre / Brian Hutton and Wayne Middaugh / Greg Ugolini all posting 67 in the 2-man better-ball competition.
