RCGA announces CDN Open lineup

(RCGA) – The Royal Canadian Golf Association announced today that 15 Canadian golfers are confirmed to compete with several of the world’s best at the 2007 Canadian Open, July 23-29 at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, Ont. The announcement includes a solid Canadian contingent made up of established PGA Tour players and promising Canadian golf professionals. Headlining the list of confirmed Canadians are 2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir of Bright’s Grove, Ont. and Calgary’s Stephen Ames, 2006 winner of The Players Championship. Joining Ames and Weir will be fellow PGA Tour players Jim Rutledge of Victoria, B.C and Ian Leggatt of Cambridge, Ont. A number of Canadians competing on the Nationwide Tour for 2007 will also join the field. The list includes David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., who was the top Canadian at last year’s Canadian Open along with Jon Mills of Oshawa, Ont., David Morland IV of Aurora, Ont., Bryn Parry of Vancouver, B.C., and Chris Baryla of Vernon, B.C. Three-time men’s amateur champion Richard Scott of Kingsville, Ont. as well as Andrew Parr of London, Ont. and James Love of Calgary will compete in their first Canadian Open as professionals. Last year the trio led Canada to a second place finish at the World Amateur Team Championships and shortly thereafter all turned professional. Parr will make his PGA Tour debut this week at the John Deere Classic in East Moline, Illinois.
2005 NCAA Individual Championship amateur winner James Lepp of Abbotsford, B.C. will make his fifth Canadian Open appearance while first year professional Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., competes in his inaugural Canadian Open. Scott, Parr, Love and Dalaet are graduates of the RCGA National Amateur Team program. Danny King of Milton, Ont., will also compete having claimed the Canadian PGA Club Pro Champion exemption. The club pro at Magna Golf Club has captured this exemption two years in a row. “Canadian golf fans will have lots to root for with our national heroes competing against some of the very best on the PGA Tour,” said Bill Paul, Canadian Open Tournament Director. “Our country features a number of talented professionals and rising stars who compete each week at events around the world.
