Goslings Final Round

December 7th, 2008

Entering the final round 14 shots behind the leader was a margin that seemed impossible, knowing that 63 was the magic number we turned the front nine at 33 with a bogie on the ninth hole. After birding the holes that were down wind  10, 12 and 13 and narrowly missing a short putt on the 14th for another birdie meant that we had to play the last 4 holes at 1under par. Making a birdie on the 16th made it very  difficult to club the down hill 17th ; were the second round we hit a 52 degree wedge 170 yards and the third day a 4 iron 150 yards. Having the tee on the  17th left a very difficult club selection, taking the option of going long of the green we played for the front of the green and came up short drawing an unfortunate plugged lie in the bunker and almost having to hit the ball sideways away from the pin and making a four . Posting a  a 65 for the day left me one shot out of a playoff and almost made the impossible Possible!

Brian Morris the retired Head professional used to say with a grin on his face  , ” Welcome to  Belmont and have a nice day .” I’ve never played a facility that would bring a player to his knees with 100yard  par 3’s with 7 different shelfs and slopes, wind blowing into your face at 20 km and out of bounds three feet over the green. The only time you have to relax is after you make the last putt on the 400 yard bowling alley 18th. Belmont is a test like no other !

cheers

Canadian PGA Championship

November 24th, 2008

Unfortunatley the end result wasn’t what I expected , going into the final round I felt perpared to claim another win.
Making the turn with 9 holes to play at 4 under par I knew that even par on the back nine would have a good chance to win.
I had made a poor decision with my appoach shot into 10 and 11 which lead to two boggies, which put me behind the leaders at 4 under. Finishing at 1 over par was very disapointing but understanding that my swing mechanics and head space were great all weak and my bad round happened to be the last.
That’s golf.
Cheers

Positive Turn on Q School

October 27th, 2008

It sure would be easy to lay down and dwell on the negitive!

Not this cowboy! We ran into a “mother nature” of a final round,  everyone has a story but the gusty winds up to 50 mph and rain sideways at times made it difficult to catch the “number” of 3 under par . Looking back on the final round we turned at even par for the event ,after making a birdie on the 460 par 4 9th we had some wind in our sails for a exciting back nine, unfortunatly the back nine won that day.

There is always two ways to skin a cat! ill start perparing for the Canadian PGA Championship next month along with the Goslings Invitational in Bermuda and get ready to monday for the Nationwide tour commencing in March 2009!

cheers

Q School / St John’s Day 1

October 21st, 2008

We hit a lot of good shots today and left a couple of putts out there on the icy greens. We hit 16 greens in regulation producing 5 birdies and 4 bogies, a little disappointed in the final result but 71 will leave us in the hunt. I’m confident with my routines between each shot today and look forward to round two.
Upwards and onwards !
BELIEVE!

Road to Q School

October 16th, 2008

A road less traveled has more obstacles! Perparing for the Q school has been a 5 year journey that has had some ups and downs.
I just finished spending three days in Orlando with Sean Foley and Dr. Craig Davies at Orange County confirming and validating the progress of the changes we have made in developing my ball striking to another level. Im really excited and confident that the preperation this year will have memeriable results.

Cheers

Ontario Quebec Matches

September 30th, 2008

Looking forward to compeating in the Titelist Cup at Mount Bruno this fall, I feel that this years team will be very sucsessfull with Tim McCutchin as our Captain . We owe this years win to Captain Kevin, who narrowly missed retaining the cup in 2007 at the lovely Essex CC in Windsor.

Its a different emotional high, and a great week to get to know your fellow competitors during a great week of matches .
