Web 2.0 companies to watch in Canada

25 July 2008

Great to see one of our Wellington Financial Fund III portfolio companies, Dthree mentioned in IDC’s latest top ten list of Web 2.0 companies to watch in Canada (press release here).

The top list contenders include:

AdHack
dthree
Octopz
Overlay.TV
PlanetEye
Ramius
SceneCaster
Standout Jobs
Tomoye
Tungle

Although by no means an exhaustive list, it is interesting to note that at least half of these companies have received some seed or Series A funding from outside VCs. So, who is funding Web 2.0 in Canada? The most active VC investors (by number of investments) in Canada based on this list are JLA Ventures and Growthworks.

Congrats to the group.

    Kul,

It’s an interesting list, some overlap with my startups to watch over at StartupNorth http://www.startupnorth.ca/2008/07/03/ten-web-startups-to-watch/

We all seem to like Octopz.

The company missing off both lists is Igloo Software.

    Hi Kul,

Thanks for the mention of AdHack and our selection to the web 2.0 companies to watch list.

Your link to Growthworks goes to a link farm / domain name squat. The URL you’re looking for is http://www.growthworks.ca/

    Best,
    James
