Intrinsyc unveils new wireless device
8 January 2008Yesterday, at CES 2008, our Fund II portfolio company Intrinsyc Software (ICS: TSX) along with Micro-Star International unveiled its first commercially available “Soleus-based” wireless hand-held device (MSI 5608). Aimed at the consumer market, the device features personal navigation, and Mobile TV, among other telephony features (HSDPA/EDGE/WiMAX). More details in the press-release here and at Windowsfordevices.com site (pics below).

Though the multi-function device may itself be quite impressive (haven’t seen it in person yet), what is more impressive is that the device was announced within six months or so of signing license agreement with Micro-Star in June 2007. That short of a development timeframe for an absolutely new mobile device speaks volumes about the value proposition of Intrinsyc’s Soleus hardware/software platform to OEM/ODMs. Well done.
With another four Soleus-based devices already announced as under development, this should be yet another busy year for Intrinsyc.
