Wellington Financial is one of the corporate sponsors of 3-time Canadian Golf Amateur champion Richard Scott. With the announcement that he has turned pro, he was recently featured in a local golf magazine. His other sponsors include Cutter & Buck and Titleist. Here are some excerpts from the piece:
A two-time All American at the University of Georgia, Scott was also part of the 2005 NCAA Championship-winning team. But he put a stamp on a remarkable amateur career in 2006 when he became only the sixth player in the 102-year history of the tournament to win three Canadian Amateur titles. It was the second straight title and third in four years for Scott, who claimed low-amateur status at last year’s Canadian Open. He rode the wave through the World Amateur Team Championships in South Africa — his third consecutive appearance — where he led Canada to a second-place finish, placing second overall in the individual play at 12 under par, 11 shots better than his nearest Team Canada teammate.
“We were waiting for him to go pro; it was that simple,” says Wellington Financial’s Mark McQueen, who has signed a three-year deal with Scott. “We’d followed him for the whole second round of the Canadian Open last year. The pro he was playing with melted down in front of him eight different times in 18 holes, but none of this bothered Richard. He showed the poise, the integrity and the modesty that you need to win, and those are hallmarks of our business.”
Richard recently played in two Hooters Tour events, and finished in the top 15 in both.
